ART 220 - DAY 3 - April 4 - Individuality

At the start of the class, I was asked to have the class set up their comics assignment to the front desk and have them all laid out for us to all see the work. In a way, it is a very unique experience to see a different perspective on the topic of "How I got to college?" from many different peoples in the classroom. Why? There are so many possibilities, views, opinions, and stories that occur in each and everyone of them. Professor Moss says that we should take those source of ideas and life experiences and integrate them into our design, project, and thought when coming up with art. It's almost like a real live human scrapbook!

The world is our generation to create and to make what it is now. Peoples such as myself are the future and the present living beings that make the world what it is now. Questions such as What you do? and How do you do it? The way you approach things and in life to create and make who you are. Professor Moss asks us how we viewed the comic assignment. Was the outlook an assignment? Was it fun? What was it? He explains that the way you look at something.. if everything is "for someone else" or "work" will result in a negative view but if you saw the purpose in a positive view, it might just be fun and enjoyable.

But for the majority of it, I think life can be enjoyable as long as you approach it in a way you want to approach it. To be you, you can do anything you wish as long as you put your mind to it, and that could be anything. Anything is pretty much possible. You just gotta make it happen.
Professor Moss gave us an example as how when he was a freshman in college in a 3D class his mind state was "I don't like it." or "It's hard." "I can't do 3D art." or "I don't want to do it." which made his mind stick to a narrow idea and pretty much having the wrong attitude approach to the class. In turn, his professor had ended up yelling at him, and assigned him another project in order to get his grade and impress the professor.

Afterwards, he then proceeds to assign us a group/class exercise for the comics up front. He asked us to put it in order and ranked the comics from Best to Worst. We had only fifteen minutes in order to work together as a group to figure out how to sort possibly more then fifteen different comics in order by rank. First we decided that each one of us had to choose our TOP 3 choices. After that, we calculated what was left and saw if there were any ties. If there were, we revoted under another ballot and sort the order of those too. Easy said then done though. Personally it was the fast way to handle things but I think we could of discussed it more, but since there was a lack of time. It leaves no room for discussion and possibly arguments that could arise from such idea. The purpose of it I see it as a sense where everyones opinions, views, and values and everyone is quite different from what they think is better then the other.

(from MacbookPro Dictionary)
individuality |ˌindəˌvijəˈwalitē|
noun1 the quality or character of a particular person or thing that distinguishes them from others of the same kind, esp. when strongly marked : clothes with real style and individuality.• ( individualities) individual characteristics.2 separate existence : anything but individuality, anything but aloneness.ORIGIN early 17th cent.: in early use from medieval Latin individualitas. The very idea of us all being different is true. Some of us may have the same interests, ideas, and all but I believe that each and everyone of us have something just about us that makes us different or stands out from the rest. Usually it takes awhile for one to find the answer or maybe we won't be able to answer it at all. I do know that, if you want to be you, you got to be the one that makes those decisions and decide them for yourself. That is what sets everyone different, with views, opinions, and experiences. They shape an individual.
